Data Sheet: GORE® Fiber Optic Cables (1.8 mm Simplex) for Aerospace & Defense
Data Sheets, Englisch
To meet the challenges of grueling environments, W. L. Gore & Associates offers GORE Fiber Optic Cables (1.8 mm Simplex). With a rugged buffering system, they guard against high-weight impact, crushing force, vibration, abrasion, extreme temperatures and more. Our cables reliably support higher bandwidth requirements on data/video architectures up to 100+ Gb/s without signal interruption. Small and lightweight, they also meet industry standards intended for larger, more rugged cables on 10+ Gb/s avionics and vectronics digital networks.
Cable Performance & Specifications
The 2019 Military & Aerospace Electronics Innovators Awards Platinum Honoree 1.8 mm Simplex cables perform at the highest levels in the most challenging aviation and military environments. They feature a high-temperature acrylate coating to help protect their fiber core. Other construction layers include:
- Perfluoroalkoxy (PFA) outer jacket
- Strength member
- Primary & secondary expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) layers
- Crush-resistant layer
- Fiber core
These materials reduce the force needed to move the cable’s fiber under compression while ensuring optimal signal transmission and enhanced termination with many standard aerospace and defense connector systems. Cables are available with single mode or multi-mode, graded-index cores to accommodate the most advanced data and video architectures available. They also offer notable features and benefits over competitors:
ENHANCED CRUSH PROTECTION
To demonstrate superior crush resistance, GORE Fiber Optic Cables (1.8 mm Simplex) for Aerospace & Defense were evaluated alongside a leading alternative cable using EN3745, Method 513. These tests revealed that our cables significantly exceeded the minimum weight impact requirements for enhanced crush protection while delivering excellent signal transmission. In contrast, the competitor’s cable showed significant optical loss and fell short of industry specifications for crush protection.
HIGH VIBRATION & MECHANICAL SHOCK ENDURANCE
Avionics and vectronics regularly face extreme hot and cold temperatures in the air and on land. So we tested our cables for vibration and mechanical shock performance after exposure to temperatures at -40°C and +135°C each at 850 nm and 1300 nm. Results demonstrated no degradation or optical loss between these temperatures, proving excellent endurance to high-intensity vibration and mechanical shock for longer service life.
Meeting & Exceeding Stringent Industry Standards
We rigorously test and pre-qualify GORE Fiber Optic Cables (1.8 mm Simplex) for Aerospace & Defense against the highest standards for performance to allow reliable use in the most challenging environments. Our cables exceed new EN3745 and JN1177 requirements for crush resistance, as well as the following:
- Flammability: ABD0031 (AITM 2.0005); BSS7230; FAR Part 25, Appendix F, Part I
- Smoke Density: ABD0031 (AITM 3.0008B); BSS7238; FAR Part 25, Appendix F, Part V
- Toxicity: BSS7239
- Performance Requirements: ARINC 802-3
- NATO Generic Vehicle Architecture (NGVA) for Land Systems: STANAG 4754
